We are officially 1/3 of the way through 2010 (crazy right!?) and I finally just caught up with two 2010 releases and since we won’t be podcasting about them (sadly) and with our next podcast dedicated to looking toward the summer and summer’s past, I thought I would use this space to recap and order the films I have seen so far this year…
TOTALLY NEGATIVE EXPECTATIONS AND TOTAL HATRED
Alice in Wonderland. I’m not sure if we three would be in total agreement over this, but this is so far the worst films I’ve seen this year. I know the other two hated it as well, but their ire was even more reserved for other things.
MY COHORTS HATED IT MORE THAN I, BUT IT STILL WASN’T ANY GOOD
Clash of the Titans. In the future I will probably look back at this film with equal hatred as Alice in Wonderland, but for some reason I didn’t have it when I was leaving the theater.
DUMB FUN, BUT ALSO KIND OF DUMB
Hot Tub Time Machine. Having just come home from the theater after seeing this, I can’t help but feel that it was fun, but could have been a whole lot better. I realize the time travel aspects of the film shouldn’t be criticized, but there were too many things that didn’t make sense for me to totally enjoy the film.
IT PROBABLY WASN’T AS BAD AS I THOUGHT IT WAS
Shutter Island. In the long run, I will probably think I didn’t give this film enough of a chance. In a few years, I will probably come back to this film and like it more than others ahead of it at this time.
I PROBABLY LIKED IT MORE THAN I SHOULD HAVE
Green Zone. The Ghostwriter. I will probably wholly forget about these films in the near future.
MORE DISAPPOINTED THAN ANYTHING
Kick-Ass. The more I think about this movie, the less I like it. So…. I’m going to stop thinking about it.
SURPRISE HIT OF THE YEAR?
Date Night. Not a great comedy or a great action film, but it works!
THE ONLY LEGITIMATE SHOT AT MY FINAL TOP 10 OF THE YEAR
How to Train Your Dragon. As you can see from above, there hasn’t been a whole lot of competition thus far, but this is it. Last year Up made my top 10 of the year, and I can expect (at least) one animated film in the top this year, as well.
